The Story
FableType was a moment of pain turned into beauty.
FableType emerged during the period when The Ziggurat, conceived as the physical home of The Universal Fairytale, was interrupted.
The Ziggurat was intended to house immersive environments, light cuttings, storytelling, gardens and spaces where people could gather around shared acts of creativity.
When that vision was interrupted, Chandra Brooks created FableType so the work could continue.
Returning to a lifelong love of fabrication, she transformed the atmosphere, craftsmanship and spirit of The Universal Fairytale into a travelling installation that could bring the work wherever it was invited.
What began as a response to loss gradually became the clearest expression of her light cuttings and the fairytale they create.
FableType is an installation within which visitors step into the fairytale before it is preserved through analogue photography.
Rather than documenting the artwork, FableType invites people to become part of it.
Each portrait preserves the memory of having shared the space, the light and the experience with others.
FableType transformed a moment of pain into an opportunity to create beauty that could be carried, shared and experienced anywhere.
It is a reminder that even when circumstances change, imagination continues to find new forms, and that the most meaningful works of art are often those that emerge from resilience, generosity and hope.
